This, I admit, has nothing to do with spanking. It is just beautiful and thought-provoking.
However, if certain of you want to fantasise about spanking any of the less-than-entirely clothed young ladies in the various film clips, I would never stand in your way! ![]()
All of the clips used in this film came from a reel of 35mm nitrate found in an old theater somewhere in Pennsylvania.
The projectionist clipped these scenes to meet local moral standards of the time.
Will our current forms of censorship look just as ridiculous to future generations?
A spanking for a lady and a spanking for her son
I’ve been working my way through the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters and when I got to the second one in the series, The Curse of the Pharaohs
I found some amusing spanking-related quotes. Now, this is a series set in Victorian England, so the author would actually have had to put some work into NOT mentioning CP, but still, all us spankos take what we can get when we read non-kinky books!
First, dialogue between a husband and wife:
After a moment of thoughtful silence he shook himself and said, in his usual careless tone, “So take care with Mr. Vandergelt, Amelia. He was not exaggerating when he called himself an admirer of the fair sex, and if I learn that you have yielded to his advances I will beat you.”
“I will take care that you don’t catch me, never fear.”

Then, reading a letter from their son (all typos sic):
Nurse is very cruel and will not give me any sweets. Aunt Evelyn would, but she is afraid of Nurse. So I have not been to a sweetshop since you left and I think you are very cruel and vishus to leave me. Uncle Walter spanked me yesterday only because I tore some pages out of his dikshunary. I needed to use them. He spanks very hard. I will not tear any more pages out of his dikshunary.
The couple, upon finishing the letter, decide that their son “needs discipline.”
There have been a few more hints and mentions of spanking – I am now on the fifth book, and am looking forward to more popping up in continuing books in the series, which is otherwise a fun mystery series about a pair of Victorian “Egyptologists” who run around digging up mummies and catching bad guys of all stripes. From what little I know of the topic, the Egyptian details seem quite accurate and reliable, and the views of Victorian England are detailed and loving.

The Merry Order of St. Bridget
The other day I was reading The Pearl out loud to my Master and the Mystery Minx, and found a reference to “The Order of St. Bridget.” Being me, I could not rest until I’d searched it out, and I found the whole text online for free. Here are some fun excerpts:
and how she kept them in order. I soon found out. She practised whipping, as almost every fashionable lady does, and kept them in order with the rod. I dare say, shut up as you are, you have never seen anything of the practice since you and I were girls together at Mme. Duhauton’s. Do you remember how we used to indulge in whipping on the sly, when Madame thought we were in bed? That was a very untutored way of proceeding. I have learned better since, and I can tell you that the passion for the rod is one which grows; I am as ardent a votary of whipping now as any of the ladies I have served, and I
have had two mistresses who loved it dearly. Mme. St. Valery kept her women and pages in order with the rod, and taught us to dread it, but she was not refined in her manner of using it; she would begin well enough, but it was sure to end in her getting in a passion. Many a time I have smarted well in her service….

Musings on Victorians…
I’ve been living in the Victorian era in books recently (not an unusual thing for me!) and today it led to a few musings.
It all started when I got this sudden urge to re-read The Secret Garden. (Which actually, was all because we’d watched The Chatterley Affair
the other night, and I had an urge to read “a bit o’ th’ proper Yorkshire” dialect — I do so adore the Northern accents!)
My Master gave me a stack of books about Victorian times last Christmas, and they’ve been sitting in lovely heap ever since, waiting for “the right time.” Well, the right time seems to have come! I started out with What Jane Austen Ate and Charles Dickens Knew: From Fox Hunting to Whist-The Facts of Daily Life in Nineteenth-Century England, which I’d been looking forward to reading for a long time. As I go along in it, of course, I can’t help but find things which fire my (kinky) imagination.
‘Once a woman has accepted an offer of marriage,’ advised The What-Not, or Ladies Handbook in 1859, ‘all she has or expects to have become virtually the property of the man she has accepted as husband and no gift or deed executed by her is held to be valid…’
This is silly, but it makes me feel all gooey and romantic. I like to think that now that I’ve married my Master (and this is pretty obvious, considering that I call him Master), that I have become “virtually the property” of him. That, like a Victorian woman, I must answer to my husband in all things, and that in the eyes of the law I am pretty much just one of his possessions. That thought makes me feel so comfortable and happy. Continuing in that theme…
When the husband and wife exchanged vows, they became one person, and, in the words of jurist William Blackstone, ‘the husband was that person.’ The wife, as noted earlier, upon marriage lost virtually all powers over any property that she possessed. All her personal property automatically became her husband’s property to do with as he saw fit…. He could “correct” her if he wished, too, a right which was supposed to mean only verbal chastisement, but in practice often meant physical punishment.
Whee! All of the above for me, please!

And, from the section discussing men’s clothing,
And the cane, of course. No gentleman was ever without one
Absolutely! I’m sure you all agree with that. How can you properly chastise your wife without one?!
I’m going to wander off and daydream about living in a Victorian world….
