I have a stuffed wolf named Kodah, and I need him to sleep with every night, whether my Daddy is home or not! But when my Daddy is gone, I also tend to sleep with his cane -- for sentimental reasons, but also practical ones (if I need to masturbate, it's right there beside me so I can't get in trouble for forgetting it!) And sometimes I pu another stuffed animal in the bed, on Daddy's side, to help pretend he is there. So, any given night, I'll have a wolf, a cane, and a trisaurotops or polar bear all in bed with me! My Daddy gave me a stuffed puppy dog very early in our relationship that I named Wiggles and he has literally since traveled the world with me. It makes me feel a lot less alone to know that he's there every night in bed no matter where I am.
