While I’m a dedicated book-worm all year round, there is something special about “summer reading.” It’s the excuse, I suppose, for reading even less intellectual brain-candy than usual. (Although my reading pattern tends to be that I have something dense on-going and will go through several other fluffier reads while slogging through the hard stuff.)
There is no excuse for the following two books, save for that it’s summer and my brain has melted. Somehow, and I have no idea how this could have happened, they both turned out to be quite kinky!
They were both, “just found on the shelf at the library” books that wandered home with me. But I must admit that I could sorta tell from the cover that the first book was going to be dirty. And it’s funny to think of a prudish porn star, but I was actually shocked at what I was reading — I mean, I got it at the library! I thought that sort of stuff could only be found at “Adult” stores!
(This image from sexandsubmission.com is here because A.) it’s hot, B.) it’s got two men in it, which happens in the below book, and C.) that’s my friend Calico in between them. I happen to know she really quite enjoyed that shoot!)
Here’s a bit from the Claimed by the Wolf: A Shadow Guardians Novel (by Charlene Teglia) which I thought you lot would enjoy:
“I want you bent over that wall.” He indicated a ledge on the far side of the small room.
Sybil managed to get her feet under herself and stood. Then she made her way to the spot he’d chosen. The rock formed a natural shelf at a convenient height. If she stood with her legs shoulder length apart and bent forward from the waist, it would support her fairly comfortably.
“Like this?” She asked the question over her shoulder, and drew in her breath sharply when she realized he was right behind her.
“Exactly like that.”
Her eyes dropped to his midsection. His cock jutted toward her, heavily engorged, thick and ready. Her sex clenched in greedy anticipation.
“Bend lower,” Kendric instructed. She wiggled her feet a little further apart and leaned into position. “Lower. Arch your back until I see can your pink pussy.”
The graphic words made her brows rise. They also made her hot. She displayed herself to him and felt her breath come faster as he stood in silence behind her, knowing where his eyes were resting.
“Is this what I am offered?” She felt his finger push into the slick flesh.
“Yes.” Her voice was as uneven as her breathing.
“Soft and ready.” He sent a second finger to join the first, twisting them inside her. Then he withdrew. She felt him guide the head of his cock to her opening, aligning himself, preparing to thrust deep. She waited, anticipation coiling tight as the seconds dragged out. Then he plunged into her, hard and fast. The fit was no less snug the second time, but her body had had a chance to become accustomed to his and she was able to take him without a slow entry.
“I won’t take it easy on you this time,” she heard him say. Her pulse leaped in response.
And this is just the start! Anal sex and fucking numerous guys soon follow! The best part is that the men all happen to be werewolves and vampires and dragons. I just love that stuff.
No matter how shocked I am to find that at the library and not on some adult story website, me ‘ats off to the the author for managing to come up with a plotline that demands that the main character must fuck a number of mythological creatures who have huge cocks. Well, they just happen to have huge cocks. Anyway, my point is that the author did a lovely job of creating a plot (not that it gets in the way of the sex very much) which serves perfectly to put the main character into the position where there is nothing she can do but have kinky sex with a number of men. That’s not easy, actually!
(This image from This image from sexandsubmission.com is here because A.) it’s anal sex, which is a focus of the story, B.) At this angle things look different enough that you could imagine that’s a half-dragon-half-man’s wedding vegetables, and C.) again, that’s my friend Calico in the picture, although it is perhaps not obvious!)
My next selection had more plot and less sex — although I can say the same for many porn stories I’ve read! The Shadow Queen: A Black Jewels Novel (by Anne Bishop) is part of a series of books, which I hadn’t read the first of, and so it took a long time for me to get into it, as the world and the characters were new to me, and a fair bit of time had to be spent on the author setting up the story for people like me, who were just coming in. However, after I read this bit, somehow that hint of kink made me come to like the characters and story so much more, and I really enjoyed it after that, and was sad when it came to its conclusion.
“Do you ever feel possessive about Marian?”
Lucivar sat back on air, as if he were sitting on a stool. “Most of the time I think of myself as Marian’s husband , or I think of her as an independent woman who lives with me and is the mother of my son. But when Marian and I first became lovers, she moved into my bedroom — and into my bed. So there’s not a night goes by that I’m not saying, ‘Mine.’”
Daemon turned to look at him. Lucivar couldn’t tell what was going on in his brother’s mind or heart, but he knew what he said here and now would matter. Really matter. So he took a moment to choose his words.
“Marian comes to my bed every night, but some nights it feels different. Occasionally I’m in bed before her, and when I see her walking toward the bed, watch her get into bed, I feel … different. More … dangerous. It’s not like the rut. When it happens, I’m still there. My brain is still there. But something changes inside me and I don’t see her the same way.”
“I don’t know what she sees in my face, in my eyes. Sometimes when she gets into bed she’s nervous but excited. Aroused. And sometimes she’s scared. Of me. Of whatever I am when that feeling fills me.”
Their eyes met. Held.
“What do you do?” Daemon asked softly.
“On the night’s she’s nervous and excited, the sex is… more. It has a flavour it doesn’t have any other time.”
“And on the other nights?”
“I’ll kiss her once, because I need to. And I’ll hold her while she sleeps. But I won’t have sex with her. Even if I’m ready to burst and she says she’s willing, I won’t have sex with her when I can smell her fear.”
Lucivar took a breath and blew it out. Not an easy thing to talk about, even with a brother he loved..
Not something he’d ever admitted to anyone before.
That’s just the barest hint compared to the unabashed naughtiness of the prior book, but I get more of a feeling of real kinkiness from the second author. The first book seems to me to be a sexualized version of romances novels — it’s all wish-fulfillment, all about the author writing down her masturbatory fantasies for other women to enjoy as well. And there’s certainly nothing wrong with that. I mean, look at the “Erotica” page on this site — it’s the same thing!
But the second book actually has a very intricately detailed other world (although I’m not sure that naming your characters things like “Lucivar” and “Daemon” is an entirely forgivable sin) and the hint of rough sex seems more like something the author has actually done, not just fantasized about. I guess it’s more a difference between someone writing a book about a country they’ve actually been to, as opposed to writing about someplace you’ve never been. As much research as you do, no matter what, if you haven’t been there the place really only exists for you in the geography of your fantasies and desires. That doesn’t get in the way of writing a good story, because stories are the stuff of fantasy, anyway, but for people who have actually been to that place, they can recognize authenticity, can recognize fellow travelers.
Well, I think possibly I’ve written more about both books than they actually deserve! “Summer reading” is not something to waste too many “little grey cells” over. It’s just pleasure for the sake of pleasure, like a glass of cold, not-too-sweet lemonade on a sweltering day.
